What is landed cost?

Landed cost is the total cost of getting a product from your supplier to your warehouse door — not just the factory price. It includes the product cost, international freight, insurance, customs duty, import tax or GST, customs brokerage, port and handling fees, and packaging. Knowing your real landed cost per unit is the only way to price your products with confidence and protect your margin.

How to calculate landed cost

Add up the product cost for the whole shipment (converted to your working currency), then add freight and insurance. Apply your duty percentage to that customs value, add import tax or GST on the subtotal, then add brokerage, port handling and packaging. Divide the grand total by your unit quantity to get landed cost per unit. This calculator does all of that automatically, including live currency conversion.

Common mistakes importers make

The biggest errors are forgetting duty and GST entirely, using the wrong exchange rate, and spreading per-shipment costs like freight across the wrong unit count. People also forget brokerage and port handling, which can add meaningfully to per-unit cost on smaller orders. Getting these right up front prevents nasty surprises when the invoice arrives.
